Rubios is a good place to eat. The customer service is excellent and the food is delicious. Their menu consists of: Grilled Seafood Tacos - Fish, Pan-Seared Shrimp Seafood Burritos, Chicken, Steak and Veggies - tacos, burritos, Quesadillas, Nachos and more Enchiladas, Salads and Bowls .... and they have a kids menu too. I haven't been to Taco Tuesday But that is still on my bucket list. They have a nice selection of tacos. They have a huge salsa bar which they always keep filled with fresh ingredients and salsas. The restaurant offers seating inside and outside. It gets pretty busy during peak hours but they do a great job with service and are always nice and friendly. Your food is always made to order but they do a great job getting the food out to you quickly, accurately and promptly. They are good with lunch and dinner. I haven't tried any of the breakfast items on the menu so I can't comment on that. The kind of Mexican food I like are enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and cheese. I would probably get a breakfast burrito if I tried something on the breakfast menu. I was disappointed that they didn't have rolled tacos or tostadas which are favorites of mine. We will definitely be back!

My favorite Rubio's!!!! Always friendly, gets the order right about 99% of the time. Remodel looks great! Everyone greets you when you walk in. They service tables. The sauce section is almost always well kept and I've never seen them out of any type of drink. Soda or beer.

Jess & I both worked hard today, & were craving the same thing lol. We had a credit for some food and decided to use it tonight at Rubio's. Manuel is the nicest, most perfect person to be the Manager of this store. He should be for the great customer service ever, so hugs to Manuel. It had been some time since we'd spoken about the mishap, so I wasn't sure if he'd remember me. He did. That is excellent customer service. The other thing I really love about Rubios is that they offer a more healthier option than other Mexican places. For example they use pinto beans for their re-fried beans, not black beans, only Rubio's doesn't fry their pinto beans. Noep. So they taste less heavy on the calories (and they are). I also love how there is a combination of a light and a dark cheese on my chicken nachos along with the pinto beans, and then complemented with fresh cilantro and pico de gallo. I ask for the sour cream on the side so I don't overeat. Did you know running ages you faster than anything else? It does. Well that -and stress. I digress. Sorry. Back to Rubio's. Rubios I'm going to have some of your yummy shrimp next time. Be ready for me. I'd like to have the Shrimp Especial Nachos or maybe a Shrimp Especial Quesadilla. Doesn't that just send you into a frenzy? Lol...I also can't wait for the seasonal langoustines. Wow! And what WAS that salad that guy was eating? It looked delicious, was in a huge bowl, and all I noticed was it was overflowing with shrimp. Omg, can't wait to come back! 5 Stars! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ When we walked in here tonight, we pretty much knew what we wanted. A yummy serving of chicken nachos. But we noticed some new items on the menu. But it was funny. The people behind us also were trying to decide what they wanted, so I turned around and asked if anyone wanted to go ahead of us, and a man said, "Oh yeah, I do!! It's Taco Tuesday!" We all laughed and motioned for him to go ahead of us. So we continued to study the tacos, and saw they had 2 different types, 1 in beer batter. We had our minds made up and instead, ordered chicken nachos, as we had planned!!! Hahaha! I love the simplicity and ease of eating nachos, with its ooey gooey cheese, re fried beans, pico de gallo, sour cream (hold the quac)......and crunchy crispy chips all underneath. I love pulling out a piece, it's finger food after all, and the trick is each element must be on each bite ;) yummy! It was crowded for a Tuesday, but our order came out pretty fast. Nice large pieces of white meat chicken with a great char on them were the star for me. Wait staff were efficient, the kitchen was cookin', patrons were jovial, and the food was great. Great location. The staff has everything down pat and delivers hot and delicious meals fast. Going to have to return for Taco Tuesday's! They looked delicious!

The California bowl and Chicken Especial burrito are really good :) They have a good variety of salsa and hot sauces. Although they are known for fish tacos and other seafood items, there is a variety of non-seafood items for people like me who don't enjoy seafood. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out quick. This is a good, quick place to eat.

So yumm! Best part, the calories are listed on the menu! I think this has become our new Friday dinner on the go spot! I'm hooked on the salads and my girlfriend is hooked on the unbreaded fish tacos and street tacos! Service, fantastic! Bathroom, single person, eh.

Whenever Chipotle is too busy, I always stop in here instead. Its a bummer that they changed the recipe for the burrito especial, but if you ask them to make it the "classic" way, they will, which is awesome. I never have to wait very long for my food here and the salsa bar is amazing!

  • Deniz A.

Regular spot on taco Tuesday here with 1.50 fish taco's. Even though they miss out something on my order sometimes, they always make it up by adding the sides on for free whenever they forget due to the madness of taco Tuesday. Beer battered taco's are amazing though.

Originally was going to eat at IN-N-OUT with my friend but we wanted to be healthy so we came here haha! Good tacos for a fast food joint. The only taco shop that makes me feel like im heatlhy with a side of beer ha! Their shrimp burrito is yummm! its only seasonal i think. I ordered the shrimp taco combo with an extra carne asada taco. So good i ate the whole plate all by myself #NotSharing. I like how they bring the food out to you...cz im so lazy. They have great service.. from being greeted as you walk in, being patient with while you order to cleaning up your mess when you leave. The guy that served us was so nice and the manager was friendly.

Stopped in for a quick bite and I am so impressed with this location. My order was miskeyed, so when my food was brought over it was obviously wrong. I just said this wasn't what I ordered but it's ok. I'll eat it anyways. I was famished and short on time. 10 minutes later my correct order was brought over to me. I didn't even ask for it. So impressed with the friendless and customer service.

It was my first time at Rubio's, so I didn't know what to expect. The design looked like a Taco Bell and Pollo Tropical combined. I was expecting mediocre fast Mexican food, but I was wrong. I ordered the Fish Taco and Fish Taco Especial plate and was blown away. First thing I noticed were the corn tortilla instead of flour, which was already a plus. Tacos should not be on a flour tortilla in my opinion. The fish was nice and juicy and the salsa selection was pretty tasty. Some of the salsas were bland, but I tried them all so I could stick to the one I liked. Their hot sauce though ... I could put that on anything. It was that good. Makes me rethink fast food quality. Much different from Florida fast foods

This is not a family-friendly restaurant. There were no changing stations in either the male or female restrooms. This will definitely impact future purchasing decisions until changes are made.

Spotless dining area and very delish / super fresh fish tacos - not bad for a place that started as a Taco love Shack in Mission Bay and now is a big arse company with about 200 restaurants and over 150 million Tacos fed to folks in the USA and then some. It's good stuff - the two gentlemen that took me there are from Mexico City & Tijuana and they definitely are rated as Taco subject-matter-experts. We got a big bunch of "Original Fish Tacos" - yum Alaskan whitefish made with great beer batter, in a tasty tortilla with the A-Z of other ingredients. Good and Plenty and not at all expensive. If in Mission Valley on a lazy weekend errand day, this is a good place for a quick and very satisfying bite.

Went by for first time after living in the area for seven years. Must say it was pretty kept up an service was good. The manager was pretty active in keeping things in order (live mgrs that work). However, you knew that was coming. The Tuesday fish tacos .... Fresh BUT Fish was over cooked, they were mushy. I will try it again.

Best rubios in San Diego in my humble opinion. Food is always super tasty and hot, employees are always nice and courteous ... I always choose this rubios over any other local rubios.

I'm starting to get stingy with my fifth star, but they do deserve it! Today I brought the kids here for lunch and it was a great experience! The restaurant was clean, smelled great, and the service was fab too! I like the way they either have beer on ice, or like today they had a bottle of Sangria waiting for me on the counter! Too bad I couldn't take them up on it since I had to work later. The salsa bar was fresh, the food was made timely, and parking was no problem.

  • Kassandra V.

I come here every Tuesday because they have the best fish tacos for such a great deal. I've gone to many Rubio's these past few years, but this one by far is the cleanest and most freshest. The staff is impeccable and nice! One of the employees named David always makes sure I have everything I need and that my tacos are up to par. He needs to be promoted or something because he is amazing. Wonderful place with amazing food! I'm going to keep coming here! :)

Love the remodel. Food is yummy and quick service. Wish there were more vegetarian options. Use the white sauce for dip for chips. Yummy!

Ok, I usually don't complain... especially when I know I'm coming in on taco Tuesday. However, when after 20 minutes you see everyone that was ahead of you get their food & leave, then start seeing people who ordered after you get their food & leave... that's an obvious sign for me that my order has been lost in the shuffle. I usually am pretty nonchalant about these type of things, but I expect ownership & a sincere promise to do better. Let's pray next taco Tuesday this doesn't happen again.

I am super excited that Rubio's brought back their Cheese Enchilada platter - I had to go several years without it or only being able to get it as a special order if they were being nice! You get 2 cheese enchiladas and your choice of red or green sauce as well as 2 sides (usually black beans and rice, but you can ask to substitute chips for one of them). I love this dish so much that I get it every time I go to Rubio's and never get sick of it. I forget exactly how much it costs, but I think it runs around $7 or $8. It is a reasonable price for the amount of food and you definitely feel full and satisfied afterwards. The staff at this Rubio's are courteous and efficient. The parking can be hectic during the lunch rush, but usually you can find a spot. Rubio's is pretty quick, so it is an ideal spot for lunch!

I don't often review large chain restaurants but the last two visits to this location were stellar review worthy so here we are. The food is as good as can be expected, if you've been to any Rubio's you know what to expect. Good and tasty (though commercialized) baja-style mexican food. Very satisfying but what takes this place to the next level is the excellent service and their consistency in providing it. Thanks guys, great job.

For a chain restaurant this place was bomb.com . Huge portions and awesome flavor. Also an open salsa bar!!! score~! I had the salmon tacos and they were delicious. Beans had great flavor, meat was cooked perfectly.

love this rubios always very clean and everyone is always very friendly! the food is your standard rubios deffinatley lives up to rubios reputation! I go here on my lunch breaks at work and appreciate that they get my order out fast!

  • James F.

Wow this place gets packed at lunch time! Must be because Rubio's is a fave for so many people. Got a chipotle ranch salad with chicken and surprise, they've upgraded it to mixed greens rather than just romaine. Throw some salsa on that and it's a great lunch, full of chicken, guac, mixed greens, pico and little tortilla strips. Good stuff! Parking is a bit tight around here, and there's seating inside and out.

  • M M.

I have to write this review because the staff here is stellar. The manager (or front staff) is incredibly attentive and friendly and the whole team really knows how to take care of customers -- a real rarity especially with fast-food counter-type restaurants. The food's consistent and high-quality like all Rubio's locations, and this one is also particularly clean. These things, and also that you can get a full mexican food dinner for under $10 is why these guys deserve a good review :)

    (5)
  • Dan E.

Decent. I tried their enchiladas and for fast food, not bad at all. The shrimp was significantly better than the chicken though; the chicken were clearly those water-added chicken cubes that were fairly rubbery in texture. Service, albeit a little slow, was friendly, but didn't get the name on my order right nor whether it was take out or dine-in. The restaurant itself was quite large, well lit and clean and had ample parking available.

  • Kristina J.

If I'm craving fish tacos and it's during the work week than Rubio's is my place! Love the original beer battered fish tacos. I've never ordered anything else on the menu..and I have no desire to try. Every time I've come here the salsa bar is stocked and clean. They offer four salsa's (that I remember) mild, verde, chipotle and hot. As well as additional lemons, limes and chopped green onions. Service is always fast and efficient which is great for your lunch hour!

Food and service are great but the smell just outside if the restaurant is disgusting. Smells like sewer. Got me nauseous after eating there. Fix it and you'll earn 5 stars.

This is the best rubios in town! Manager is always very helpful and food is always on point and hits the spot! I get the blackened Mahi burrito with no guac (just not a fan!) rice on the side (for baby) and no corn. I always ask for it extra blackened and they always deliver. Love love love rubios. I frequent here at least 1X a week!

Food is always great! They remodeled and it looks fabulous! Friendly service as always. Tried the langostino lobster burrito for the first time and it was very good. My fiancé always says they have the best fish tacos. Always happy with Rubio's :)

    (4)
  • Natalie M.

Great location and they have outdoor seating. Food is great as always. Only thing I don't like is how small they cut their limes compared to other locations. I have to get almost 20 lime wedges for the juice I want.

    (5)
  • Natasha K.

I must say this is the only fast food restaurant I will go to. I'm not even sure if they are considered fast food. They have the best chopped chicken salad, EVER. I come to this location so much they already know me by name. That is wonderful customer service or maybe I go too much! :)

  • Sam H.

It looks like Rubios got a face lift, the restraint was clean and bright, everyone greated us even though they were busy! Rogelio was super friendly and has amazing customer service :)

Love rubios. This location in particular is great. Their flour tortillas for the soft tacos are beyond superb. Get the gourmet chicken on flour. Aye!

The best fish tacos and burritos. I have been coming to Rubios since I was a child. I have never had a bad experience. The staff have become way more involved with their customers and the food has always been the best. Keep it up! This review goes for all Rubios. I have eaten at almost all of them.

    (5)
  • Todd S.

Rubios, as a chain, should be ashamed of themselves. They serve the worst food for the highest price. I really cannot believe people eat here give the options in Southern California. You can get WAYYYY better fish tacos almost ANYYwhere else, and for a fraction of the price. My first experience is pre-Yelp. My latest experience came because I had some free taco coupons. You would think I would be happy with that an not yelp, but this place is such a rip off, I just have to post about it. Their torillas suck, their mahi mahi is sooo NOT FRESH that is smells bad, and their signature fish tacos are just disgusting fish sticks on a bad tortillas. A third grader could make a better fish taco

This place knows how to make great fish and chicken tacos. Everything is fresh and very tasty. I enjoy the salsa bar as well.

I can't remember what I did before I met Rubio's. I eat at this location probably 4-5 times a week. The staff is always friendly and the brewed mango tea has never ran out. The parking can get full during peak hours so if you're in a hurry I would recommend going before or after the lunch rush.

    (5)
  • angela h.

The best fish tacos! They have a bunch of new items. The black tea is also good here. They are a bit more expensive than I would prefer... Paid about $20 for one drink, a rice and chicken bowl, and tacos for two people to share. But like I said I love their original fish tacos. They also have different varieties like their mango salsa taco and etc.

    (4)
  • Aaron E.

Like everyone else I love this location. While parking is horrible it's not their fault. Their food is always spot on and their service super awesome. They will table touch which is rare in a fast food place. All the staff makes you feel super welcome. I hate cilantro (I know strange) and when I mentioned this the gal told me they could make a special salsa for me without it. What?!? You've got to be kidding, I was thrilled. And the food came out fast, hot and delicious.

    (5)
  • Rob M.

Great variety and superb flavors! I love being able to have a delicious Chicken Especial Burrito, a variety of amazing fish taco choices, simple street tacos, or go healthy with a HealthMex burrito or a great choice of salads. Always something for everyone, even gluten-free options.

Came here for the "Seasonal Langostino Lobster" they offer it in a taco, burrito, or quesadilla. I wondered if the concept was the same as Taco Bell, same ingredients just one's wrapped up and the other is not. Basically small or large. She explained that the burrito had the addition of beans and rice to it. I opted for the Langistino Lobster Burrito, it came with some chips. I knew going in that it was not a taco shop and should not expect the food to be as such.... And thats exactly what i got. The burrito was okay, nothing special, the taste of the lobster kinda got lost in all the other stuff (rice, beans, and guacamole) and to be honest when it comes to crustaceans im more of a crab guy. I just kept hearing the commercials on the radio and needed to find out for myself. Guess advertising works, it got me in the door but can't really say im a fan of it, it's kinda like the Mc Rib, they keep saying "its back for a limited time" so it draws you in, but it's really nothing special. I think if you want to taste the lobster, the quesadilla is the way to go, its just cheese, lobster and tortilla. I also don't like their chips here, they taste like they come from a factory and put under a heat lamp to warm up, instead of fried fresh in house.. its not difficult to just fry tortillas in house. I'll still go to Rubio's for $1.50 taco tuesday when im in the mood for a fish tacos. Food 2.5 stars minus 1 star for the broken lock on the mens bathroom door (single toilet). Lucky i didn't have to do the deed, otherwise someone could just walk in and see me sitting on my throne.

  • Kristen M.

I LOVE rubios...don't get me wrong, they are usually very good about specials requests for people with allergies, etc. however, this rubios always seems to mess up my order and I end up having to throw away my entire lunch... This happened the last two times I went and when I told them they just said "sorry"- then stop doing it! Food allergies aren't a joke and need to be taken more seriously. Moral of the story, make sure they repeat your order to you and you check it before you leave.

    (2)
  • Warren R.

It's a chain so you get what you would expect. If you are looking for vegetarian, they have a good vegi burrito. If you are looking for vegan options it all has cheese pre mixed in. I do enjoy that they carry craft beer. This particular location is clean and staffed well. A small foot print as far as Rubio's goes. I really like this chain in general. If you need food fast it's a top choice for taking my kids. The fish is also sustainably harvested!

    (3)
  • Cristina B.

Parking is craptastic, limited spaces in a shopping center so I try to come during off-hours. Still, Rubios is a guilty pleasure I indulge in from time to time. I miss their crispy shrimp tacos! I normally order a shrimp burrito in a whole wheat tortilla, and ask for black beans instead of refried. In my mind, this makes it healthy(ier?). A whole burrito is difficult for me to finish but I try. The service here is quick and friendly, and its super close to my office which is an added bonus above the Pt. Loma location.

    (3)
  • Charlie C.

For a chain restaurant their fish tacos are really good! They deep fry the fish in a wet batter and it comes out GBD (golden, brown, delicious) I also ordered their Baja burrito with steak. That was okay. The fish tacos out shined the burrito! While you reading this you might ask yourself, what is this guy doing going to Rubios, when there is so many other fantastic Mexican places to get food. Well to answer that question my friend and I were running late to bottle service at Stingaree. I had to grab something quick and Rubios was there!

    (4)
  • Jessica F.

Rubios just has an A game attitude. It's obvious they strive for excellent customer service. They never have fallen short for me. Order ahead works great! Service is fast and the salad bar has excellent choices! Love getting a quick take home dinner here...and the vanilla coke!!

  • Critiquel O.

The staff here is great, really can't compliment the folks who work here enough. But the new changes to the food preparation that the franchise is making was a bit odd, and the food was never anything to die for.

  • Kelly O.

I went to this Rubios because I got a coupon for a free meal on my birthday. After ordering, it took FOREVER for our food to come out. I got a mahi mahi burrito seemed to have all the right stuff in it - but it was so BLAND. It needed more flavor. It a city where you can get good Mexican food all over the place, there is no reason to come here. There were also screaming kids literally everywhere.

  • Aly P.

Been going here since I was little and will continue to go here. I wish they would open one on the east coast though! Their fish tacos are the best I have ever had. No will ever compare to these!!! They give you beans and chips with your choice of salsa too. The food is fresh and healthy and worth it! Its well priced too! You can find the recipe online and make them at home but Im not sure if they'd compare to the ones in the restaurant! Def check Rubio's out!

  • Denise L.

Rubio's used to be a great value but not anymore. Skimpy burritos for a lot if dinero! I had a fish burrito and it was "lean cuisine." I paid over 9 dollars for burrito with a combo side of beans and a drink. Where do they get off with charging these prices for fast food. I had been a big fan of the food food for many years but big corporate profits now are their main focus. The fish probably isn't even fresh. I can go to our local fish place in leucadia two blocks from the ocean and have fresher more plentiful food. This will be my last visit to Rubios. They have lost their small business focus.

    (2)
  • J S.

LOVE LOVE RUBIO'S!! I haven't had one bad thing yet. Come here during the week on my lunch hour. Everyone is super nice and the food comes out fast. Not just fast, but fresh and delicious. No complaints here!!

This Rubio's isn't bad. The staff is friendly, the food is consistent, and my meal was served within a few minutes after I ordered it.

I joined Rubios e-club, and they sent me a coupon for a free meal up to $7.00 for my birthday. So I went in and ordered an Especial steak burritio. I like my burritos tasty. That means I like to taste the meat on them, and not smothered in some sort of sauce. So even though I ordered my burrito with no guacamole, sour cream or beans, I couldn't taste the meat, what there was of it. I couldn't tell you what it was smothered in, because it was nasty! I picked out the few pieces of meat that was in there, and gave them to my cat. I'll never eat there again!

I love rubios fish tacos. Taco night is great. I don't really like the new look after the re-model but it's growing on me. They have a decent selection of beers to go with your meal and tasty salsas. Very clean restaurant and a little outside seating as well which is nice on our San Diego summer days. Great little spot near the busy mall but without the busy feel.

Best fish tacos ever! Restaurant is clean, and employees are friendly. I'm also glad that they recycle.

  • Anneke S.

I have been a Rubio's fan for a long time and yesterday was the first time I went to the one on Mission Gorge/Friars. There was something extra special about this. All of the employees were so nice and helpful! The guy behind the counter, Matt, was so nice and upbeat. Everything from the real silverware and plates and the attitudes of the employees just plain outshined the ones I have been to in the past. It has got to be great management and the employees reflect this. The food was so good...especially the new gourmet shrimp taco. This will be the go to one for my husband and I from now on. The especial fish tacos were much larger than I remember. My husband could barely eat the two he ordered they were so large...but he managed! :-) Easy parking and a great location.

I love Rubios. I am a sell out. It's completely different from when I first had it back in the 90s, but I still love them. The one in Mission Valley is pretty awesome. They did just remove the fish, so that sucks, but they're totally friendly and it's really the quality of service, not just the food that I'm writing about here. It's a good place to grab a quick meal and it's a good place to sit and relax and have a fish taco. So there you have it. Rubios. Still awesome.

I had to try this place after hearing about how it's the "best fish taco place in San Diego" on the radio and seeing how this place started this fad in my San Diego tourist info guide (thank the SD tourist center for that). I didn't expect this place to be a faster-food place. I like their a la carte and platter options, but I wished they offered more options with taco choices and more than chips and beans. I also like their salsa bar options similar layout to Moe's. Some of the tacos I liked while some I didn't. My husband's grilled mahi-mahi and grilled steak were bland at best. Despite that the fish tacos were actually REALLY GOOD. Yeah they're deep fried, but they were tasty - both the original and fish especiale! I especially like their white sauce that comes with it as unhealthy as it may be. Yes it's a fast-food chain but I'm sold on this fish tacos idea after this! Hopefully I'll have a chance to come back to try other menu offerings.

So a friend of mine insisted we come here for lunch because crispy shrimp tacos are back. He thinks they are Neptune's gift to southern Cal. What?? They use tiny bay cocktail shrimp. They aren't even beer-battered, they are breaded. The "creamy chipotle" sauce is some kind of (semi) spicy mayo. The mango sauce (the closest thing to OK on the plate) is like mango jelly with a few pepper flakes. I had a bit of his crispy shrimp burrito: Mostly wet ingredients: The same mayo sauce, cabbage and pico, so the crispy shrimp turned into a gooey mess of sloughed-off breading, and I still couldn't taste the shrimp. Still, my friend was pretty impressed to be able to get shrimp with fast Mexican food. Next week I am going to take him to Cotijan in Sherman Heights to get a shrimp quesadilla. When he bites into the large succulent shrimp that have been cooked with garlic and cilantro then rolled in a large tortilla with cheese and served with excellent hot sauce and a lime wedge, he will see the error of his ways. If you peeled the breading off all the shrimp in one of Rubio's tacos, you could probably hide them under one of the shrimp at Cotijan. Till he has had some remedial epicurean training, he is so not allowed to pick where we have lunch.

Bean burritos are in my top 5 favorite things in the universe. I love them. Really, I love Rubio's bean and cheese burritos. They are just wonderful. Now, for a review on this location. I like it a lot. It's close by my house. The employees are very friendly and never look at you like "Really? You're back again for ANOTHER burrito?" Instead, they're very friendly and pretend to not know that I'm always there. I like that in most cases. It's kind of awkward when they know what you want the minute you walk in the door and have your total ready for you at the counter. The food is always made well. But, if you get a bean and cheese burrito, it usually has salsa in it. So if you don't want the salsa in it, ask for it without the salsa! Also, sometimes the burrito will explode all over your lap because it is rather overstuffed. So if this bothers you, I suggest to ask for half of the beans. Trust me. The restaurant itself is always clean, and there is somebody always wiping down tables, etc. There is a nice little area to eat outside with comfortable outdoor furniture and tables with umbrellas above most of the tables to prevent harsh sunburn while eating delicious Mexican food. They have a small selection of beers to have with your burritos (or whatever else you may choose!) And the churros are reminiscent of Disneyland churros, which are my favorite churros in the world. The prices are good. My hubby and I eat here for less than $15 and we definitely do not order conservatively. I also really like their salsa bar where you can sample a few different salsas. I recommend the mild salsa mixed with the spicy one. The spicy is good, but it's rather bitter.. and adding some of the mild adds in some much needed sweetness. I like Rubio's. Yum.

Your new interior remodel is boring, lacks imagination, overly corporate & lacks the culture of Mexico. Rubio's wants to capture the Latin flavor yet still earn the Anglo dollar but fails to promote the backbone of your own identity... Mexico. You have great menu items however it's obvious your marketing execs and/or decision makers are Non-Latinos trying to segway into a more mainstream market. This can be done so by staying true to your past vibrant, playful Mexican identity. One does not see Italian restaurants changing their classic Red/White, checkered table cloths... Why? Because that is their true culture.

This place is kept clean. The AC is blasting and it's always freezing in there. No complaints for when it's hot outside but, it kinda bites when it's colder inside than it is outside, on a cold day. The staff is trained to be mega-fake-friendly and they all shout a greeting as you enter. They also come around and ask if everything is okay and how does everything taste. That part is lame. Leave everyone alone. It's not a sit=down-with-a-menu place. So, let's not act like it is. But, it's not their fault, they are just doing their job. The food is yummy and slightly over priced but, yummy. I most especially dig the mahi-mahi and bean burritos. The chips are kinda sucky but, the salsa bar is yum too. So yeah, overall, service is nice but, a bit over the top. Food is good and slightly over priced. I like this location because it's near my work for lunch dates with my man. And, I can eat all the salsa I want!

I actually like Rubio's. More so for their chicken salads. My favorite? The Chipotle Ranch. If I want a change, I'll be daring and snag a couple of fish tacos. YUM! The only problem with the place? Service is meh! These are people who don't look too happy to work there. Kinda sucks. I go there occassionally and have yet to have one of their cashiers smile at me, when asking for my order. The people at Taco Bell and In-n-Out, nearby, must like their jobs a whole lot better because they smile a whole lot more. Sorry, no service with a smile at this place. Otherwise, I'd kick in an extra star.

Before the days of no gluten, I would give this place 4 stars for the delicious fish taco especial. But I am not too pleased with my choices sans deep fried goodness. The options for me are grilled shrimp, mahi mahi, or salad... all of which (as usual) are the most expensive things on the menu (6-9 bucks) and dont even come with a drink! Are you kidding me? For two tiny mahi tacos and a chinsy side of rice, without a drink, I pay 8.70. Not right. One great thing about them is the e-club. Sometimes they have really good deals. Like yesterday, I got a email coupon for my birthday, free entree up to $7.00. Its just too bad "Mahi Mahi tacos in corn tortillas" translated back to the cook as "Health Mex Mahi Burrito in a Whole WHEAT tortilla". Cant even get my b-day meal right. :(

I ate here yesterday for the first time in years and the first thing I noticed was no more fish tank. I thought that was their thing but I guess now they're just focused on fast food with little character. The girl at the counter was nice and the food was ok. The hot salsa is great and they still have big, juicy jalepenos but the whole time I was eating I was thinking "WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING HERE? I COULD HAVE GONE TO EL ZARAPE!!!!"

Always polite and knowledgeable, this location provided me their normal selection and had recommendations on their other items that I was unfamiliar with..

It's a chain, so if you like Rubio's like I do, you'll like the food here. However, I was disappointed at the the size of my BIG Burrito Especial. It should have been called SMALL Burrito notsoEspecial. I was surprised at how small it was, as I order the exact same burrito at every Rubio's I go to and it is always BIG. So big, I can't even finish half. Who knows maybe they were having an off day... it happens. Just to be sure, I will go again, order the same burrito and update my review. Aside from the size, it was still very yummy. happy eating.

It's called Taco Tuesday people. I've learned to just stick to either the traditional fish tacos, or the taco special. But $2 fish tacos with generous portions are an awesome deal. That's Tuesdays only people.

Where's the meat?? I really like Rubio's fresh taste and their quick service, but where is the meat... I ordered the Big Burrito Especial today because it is the only burrito that is worth your $6 as the other ones are child sized. I start eating it and as the mayonaise sauce starts dripping out and I chomp on beans and rice, I wonder, "Am I eating the right burrito? Did they give me a veggie burrito instead?" Anyway, this is not a uncommon occurance at any Rubios as I am consistantly dissapointed with their portion sizes compared to other chains like Baja Fresh (who has a great Diablo Shrimp Burrito) and La Salsa. Their salsa bar is average at best. You can choose from Green stuff, Red stuff, Chipoltle stuff and carrots and peppers. Rubios, you broke my heart...

The Beer Battered fish Burrito never seems to fail my taste buds. However, this time the burrito had all the ingredients separated and I like when you can have every ingredient in one bite. It was still delicious and I wouldn't change it.

The Especial Burrito is to die for. Honestly, my favorite thing every at Rubio's. The service here is usually pretty fast, but the parking sucks at lunch time.

Every time I mention to my food-critic friends I like Rubio's, people always roll their eyes and give me a hard time. But hey, its good food everytime, and we all have to eat a little fast food from time-to-time to be patriotic. Several coworkers originally from San Diego always try to stop in at a Rubios at least once when in town to get the fish taco's, and I always do the same.

Pretty good... closest Rubios to home, so of course we use them a lot. The only thing is that burrito size can vary pretty significantly, so sometimes you just don't get quite enough. Sometimes they're really quick, sometimes not. It's pretty back and forth.

Rubio's, Rubio's, wherefore art thou Rubio's? This place is goooood. Cheap eats, fast service and always the same each and every time. Their hot salsa is awesome. Fish tacos are my favorite! Get them on the corn tortillas and you wont be disappointed. Their combos come with chips and beans. Skip the beans and get double chips.

My first Rubio's experience was when I used to work at in the UTC area. This is just the one that I've most recently been to. I enjoy the food here - I pretty much always get one of the burritos, but I go with what I know. I don't really care if it's a chain or not, because, hell, being from New Jersey, it was new to me! We don't have Rubio's, and I lived about 45 minutes away from the nearest Taco Bell. So you understand my plight, right? On our most recent excursion, I got the Burrito Especial (again, I go with what I know). Eric got a combo that included fish tacos. I took a bite, hesitantly. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it on my own. First of all, I'm not really a fish fan. Shellfish, yes. Filet of sole type shit, no. And I can't really get over what they call them...FISH TACOS? I may not have lived near any Mexican joints back in Jersey, but I had definitely heard of fish tacos. And rest assured, Rubio's ain't what comes to mind when I hear "fish tacos". *shudder* GIVE THEM A NEW NAME! heh.

I only come for Fish Taco Tuesdays. I will not go to Rubio's for any other reason. I bring my tupperware and fill it up with Salsa. I will not do with their useless little sauce cups. Yes, I do not care if people stare at me as I snag a gallon of salsa. Sorry Rubio's.

I came to Rubio's on a recent San Diego visit with high expectations, since several southern-Californina friends had obsessed over the fish tacos and burritos. Being a vegetarian, I missed out on those, but ordered the cheese enchiladas with a side of chips and guac. I checked and found out the Mexican rice was made with chicken stock, and since I couldn't eat it they kindly replaced the rice with extra beans and chips. The enchiladas were delicious. The guacamole wasn't nearly plentiful enough for the amount of chips we got, but was tasty and chunky. Overall decent, but not the excellent Mexican food I was expecting in SoCal.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
